Analytical Technician

 

Analytical Technician, Berkshire, 12 month contract, from £11p/h
Our client is a leader in waterflood-based Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). To maintain their leadership position we are developing and deploying new methods of oil recovery. This will ensure that we maximize recovery from our existing and future oilfields thereby protecting the global supply of energy far into the future. We now require an Analytical Technician to support our analytical capability deployed for the EOR project.
The role is based in Berkshire within the EOR Testing and Analysis team. The role is in the Ion Chromatography and ICP-Mass Spec Analysis Lab, reporting to the Team Leader, EOR Testing and Analysis. The role is hands-on and lab-based, working with new Dionex IC and Agilent ICP-MS equipment. 

Required Skills:

This exciting new role has two main aspects which are set out below. 

Implementation of HSSE standards and procedures: 
• Assure safe operations in accordance with HSSE standards and procedures 
• Drive continuous improvement of local HSSE standards and procedures 
Analysis of aqueous and organic samples using IC and ICP/MS instruments: 
• Equipment running, calibration, method development, maintenance and troubleshooting 
• Provision of a timely and efficient service, developing new methods to meet changing requirements 
• Problem solving, working closely with the FPT Analytical Department 
• Analysis of experimental data and generation of written reports 
Essential criteria & qualifications: 
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in chemistry, ideally analytical chemistry. 
The key skills required are: 
• Knowledge or experience of laboratory HSSE practices and considerations 
• Eager to learn and develop new skills in the analytical area 
• Pro-active attitude towards continuous improvement 
• Proven track record of generating accurate experimental data 
• Excellent communication skills and successfully collaborate with people of various backgrounds and levels of experience 
• Foster team work and cross discipline collaboration 
• Analytical method development and troubleshooting 

Desirable criteria & qualifications: 
Advanced degree (e.g. MSc) would be advantageous. 
Experience of IC and/or ICP-MS would be advantageous. 
Familiarity with measuring anions and cations in brines and other water samples. 
Familiarity with aqueous and organic ICP-MS. 
Familiarity with current Dionex and Agilent software systems
